The Society of the Magi

Mission is to advance the cooperative interests of wizards, set professional standards, and create opportunities for members across Oerth.

Professional Courtesies are a recent focus of the Society, which has historically connected Schools of Magic with various Guilds in the City of Greyhawk.

While anyone can be welcomed into the Society, its governing circles are reserved strictly for Wizards. Any Wizard looking for upward mobility is expected to be in good standing with their Guild. The Society is made up of The Membership Committee, The Social Committee, The Board of Trustees, The Security Council, and the Executive Triumvirate.

At present there are more than 100 magi who make up the Society’s membership, but they are rarely found together. The personal interests of each member are as varied as the magi themselves. The Society is usually broken down into coteries, typically by school of training or special interest.

A prominent group within the Society has set in motion plans to restore the ruins of infamous sites in the archaeological record . Such plans have been discussed for over a century, but they have always been abandoned because of strong opposition from one or another group within the Society.

The Pentacle of Five

MISSION: The preservation of the balance of power between the forces of Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos in the Flanaess, ensuring that one does not dominate the other for an extended period of time.

Originating from Mordenkainen and Bigby’s Obsidian Citadel, The Pentacle of Five is a small council of 5 Wizards, their followers, and hirelings. The Pentacle manages a network of skilled professionals and anonymous contacts within various governments, ruling bodies, noble castles, private militias, and the like. They use accurate information to determine the appropriate responses to threats against the status quo, and foster positive relationships with all manner of crafting guilds and mercantile companies.

The Great Library of Greyhawk

Mission is to record and preserve accurate accounts of important events, great works, and noteworthy achievements for posterity and the benefit of civilization as it advances. A recent secondary objective has been to secure education and training for those who show promise.

The Library of Greyhawk is a collective operation between 10 Circles of Librarians, sometimes called Links. The Links are organized around specific areas of study:

General Works, Philosophy, Religion, Social Science, Languages, Science, Technology, Arts & Recreation, Literature, and History & Geography.

When a novice scribe enters their order, they must begin by forging a metal link. They begin with General Works and advance on up to History & Geography. Once their Chain of Ten Links is completed, they may be considered for elevation to that of Library Conservator, and given permission to start their own Library in a pre-designated location, and wear their chain as a necklace. Or they may be given the title Library Trustee, and govern the organization, wearing their chain on the shoulder.

The Order of Stars and Moons

Mission is to foster connections and professional relationships between Clerics and Wizards.

Very little is known about the inner workings of this cooperative order, as they are relatively new, having emerged in the last decade. The Order was originally fraternal and open only to male humans and elves. However, under the leadership of Warnes Starcoat, they expanded by including women, and then opened up to other demi-humans as well.

The Order of Stars and Moons do have deep pockets and have considerable influence in the Duchy and County of Urnst as well as the Northwest, thanks to Drawmij.

It is rumored that a small cadre within the Order has an audacious plan to build a flying ship. Rumors exist of similar plans among in Gradsul, Dyvers, and Radigast City and this is cited as the impetuous for the Order’s own schemes.
