Gems and Sockets for Weapons, Helmets & Armor, and Shields

Players can enhance existing items by having them socketed for 500 gp per socket, and then adding gemstones to the sockets.

Each item can hold a maximum of 3 sockets.

Each gem has to have a minimum 500 gp value. Additional value does not mean additional effect. Gems can be exchanged in town for gems of a specific type, at a 10% exchange. So, if you would need 550 gp of Tiger Eyes, for example, to get a 500 gp Ruby.

Each gem grants a benefit of 1, except for Amethysts and Diamonds. Amethysts need all 3 to get the 1 pt bonus. The scale for Diamonds is much more random.

Having all 3 sockets gemmed unlocks a Special Power. If the SP is used, the gems burn out and must be replaced.

Yo Dave-ster, does a crown / circlet count as a “helmet” for the purpose of socketing?
